Wildcat Alumni Spotlight:
Shanee (Estrada) Parker

Shanee graduated from JVL in 2011. She is currently working as an assistant teacher at Sunshine Daycare and loves learning from the 2 and 3-year-old children she works with. Shanee says working at the daycare helps her build patience and maturity, helps her better herself, and is preparing her for having her own family soon. She dreams of creating her own daycare one day.

Shanee is most proud of:  Finishing high school at 21. Shanee said, "The one thing my grandma and my aunt both wanted was for me to finish high school and I did. I was able to make both of them proud."

Shanee's favorite memories from JVL Wildcat include:  "The student school trips were BOMB! They showed me more than I could ever imagine,” she said. Going to Boston was Shanee's favorite trip and she explained, “JVL gives us opportunities to expand our minds and show us kids that we could do more.”

Shanee's advice for future Wildcat students: "Understand that the teachers mean well and want what's best for you. You need to listen to the teachers.  Every single staff member in this building means well, no matter how blunt or harsh the message given may seem.  Don’t take things personally, but rather as constructive criticism."

Fun Fact: Shanee just got married in December and is now Mrs. Shanee Parker! CONGRATS SHANEE!!!!!

 The Power of HOPE

Dan J. Tomasulo, Ph.D  wrote an article saying that people who have HOPE have sustainably better physical and mental well-being and live longer and happier lives. We can train our thoughts to focus on what we can control.

People with high hope have a passion for life that "fuels" their energy. They have developed persistence, optimism, and belief in many possibilities and great potential. People who have hope strive to do and be better, and are always working and turning their weaknesses into strengths. They jump over hurdles and obstacles instead of letting them knock them down.

Research says the main things to do to become a person of hope are:

1. SET & ACHIEVE GOALS

2. STICK WITH POSITIVE PEOPLE

3. FOCUS ON THE PRESENT

4. BE SELF-REFLECTIVE &  CONFIDENT

5. KEEP A POSITIVE OUTLOOK

The secret is:  focusing on what you can control.
