New year, healthier you?

Sometimes we make big new year’s resolutions for our health: “I’m going to the gym 7 times a week” or “I’m cutting ALL sugar from my diet”. While these changes can have a positive impact, these types of resolutions can also put too much pressure on ourselves and lead us to give up quickly on our goals. Instead, skip the extremes and come up with realistic goals.

Read this article for low-key ways to boost your health in the new year.

Wildcat Alumni Spotlight:

Nicholas Escabi

Nicholas Escabi, class of 2014, attended Kingsborough Community College and SUNY Delhi in upstate New York where he completed a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. Nicholas played basketball throughout his college career and is now the Assistant Women's Basketball Coach at Kingsborough Community College. Right after earning his bachelor’s degree, he worked as a Case Manager for HELP USA, a nonprofit organization that provides housing to people in need. In February, Nicholas will start the Academy for NYC Corrections and is very excited for this new journey.

Nicholas is proud of: “How I turned my negative situations into a positive because it made me who I am today.”

His best Wildcat memory: “When we won a PSAL championship in 2012-2013 all for Mr. Green who has truly impacted so many individuals.”

His advice for current Wildcat students: “Never give up on yourself no matter how difficult things get. You are in charge of your future and you could make anything of yourself. If you work hard everything else will fall into its place, and always remain positive!”

If you know of or are, yourself a Wildcat Superstar Alum who would like to share an inspiring story with our community, we would love to hear from you! Email counseling@jvlwildcat.org
