JVL Wildcat is CLOSED tomorrow, March 14.
With the approach of Winter Storm Stella JVL Wildcat is CLOSED tomorrow, March 14.
After a very successful fall term in which we had our highest number of January graduates, the spring term is off to an exciting start. On February 15 over forty-five students and staff attended a special performance of the Broadway musical, Hamilton. Participating schools were required to submit a video of their school’s best poem, play, rap or song adapted to the theme of the Hamilton musical.
Senior Jalen McIntosh was selected by Wildcat staff to enter his “Hamilton” rap for consideration by the organizers of the special day to be performed live at the theatre. After reviewing his video entry he was selected by the Hamilton Education Program committee to take the stage and entertain the capacity high school crowd. See below for Jalen's performance. Congratulations Jalen on your outstanding performance!
NADAP, a nonprofit organization, provides three-week vocational programs that lead to certifications for OSHA, security and EMT. Since June, five graduates have been certified and are currently working: Akeem Luke and Reginald Robinson (security), Keino Dennis and Randy Robinson (construction) and Katherine Vargas (EMT). Three seniors are currently in training. In addition, three June 2017 graduates are enrolled in college classes at BMCC.
Congratulations to our boys’ basketball team for another fine season. Luis Garcia, a member of the Wildcat squad, has been selected for the Manhattan/ Bronx all-star team. Good luck to our girls’ team whose season is underway. Cashmir Fulcher, a member of last year’s championship team, was named the 2016-17 rookie of the year in the CUNY Athletic Conference. Coed softball begins in April.
The spring term goes by quickly. It is important for our students to pay close attention to their grades. We hope that our parents and guardians will remind them that good attendance generally results in good grades. We want our future graduates to be as successful as their predecessors.
Please note that open school day will be on April 27th from 3-7 pm.
